Difference between Google SEO and YouTube SEO?

Google says – why should I rank this content and takes a long time to decide whether to push the content up or not

Youtube says – why should not I rank this video and immediately place it on top of the results and based on 24-hour performance, decide whether to push the content down or not?

Hence the initial 24 hours are very crucial for a Youtube video to get a good rank.

And then there are some factors based on which YouTube decides which video to display at the top of its search results

Based on our learning of doing YouTube SEO, we have figured out 10 hacks to optimize the search of our video on YouTube.

Here are 10 YouTube SEO hacks you need to know

Check out the complete YouTube SEO optimization guide here.

1. Put your main primary keyword in the title.
2. Put 4 to 5 secondary keywords in the description.
3. Add social media links in the description.
4. Add the primary keyword and 8 to 10 secondary keyword in tags.
5. Create a custom thumbnail rather than selecting from the options.
6. Use cards to suggest another video in the middle of the video.
7. For the end screen suggest another video to continuing viewing.
8. Create a youtube playlist of similar videos.
9. Upload closed captions file for every video.
10.Reply to comments to keep your audience engaged

#1 Put your Primary Keyword in the title

While searching for videos on YouTube, most people pay earnest attention to the title.

Many Organizations churn out many videos as a part of online marketing to garner potential traffic for their website, but they do not get the desired results.

The main reason is – NOT writing SEO-friendly titles or social media-friendly titles.

So the number 1 hack is to Put your primary keyword or YouTube SEO keyword in the title and not just write any random title.

Check out – Top 25 Global Video Marketing Disruptors

#2 Put 4 to 5 secondary keywords in the description.

Most people either leave ‘description’ blank or write something for the sake of writing.

But the fact is Description plays an important role in YouTube SEO as it suggests to YouTube what the video is all about.

So number 2 hack – you can put 4-5 secondary keywords in the description.

Secondary Keywords are those keywords that are related to your primary keyword. So, it’s important to do proper research on keywords before writing a description for your video.

Here are the basic YouTube SEO guidelines apart from adding secondary keywords in the description:

  • Include your primary keyword in the first 30 words
  • the description is at least 200 words
  • Include your Primary keyword 3-4 times and not more than that

#3 Add your social media links in the description.

Check out the YouTube SEO description example below.

#4 Add Primary Keywords and 8-10 secondary keywords in Tags.

Youtube Video Tags may not play that significant role in SEO but they help in getting unforeseen views.

Tag your main keywords first and then move to general or matching keywords.

The most prominent role of tags is that they help the video to show up more often as a related video section (in the sidebar area of YouTube).

#5 Create a custom thumbnail rather than selecting an image from the thumbnail options.

The most important factor and the powerful click motivator is the video thumbnail image of your video.

Thumbnail images cannot be considered a direct ranking factor for video, but they make a huge impact on a video to be clickable.

In a matter of seconds, viewers decide whether they want to watch your video or not.

#6  Use “Cards” to suggest ‘another video’ in the middle of the video.

Adding YouTube cards and end screens is an effective way to convert viewers to subscribers.

It creates a clickable CTA that enables users to take action.

Cards can be placed anywhere in a video. The following types of cards can be added:

  1. Video / Playlist
  2. Poll
  3. Channel Promotion
  4. Link

Please check the below example of a YouTube card.

#7 For the end screen, suggest ‘next videos’ to continue viewing.

Youtube endscreen is a clickable block that generally appears in the last 5 to 20 sec of a YouTube video.

Add an end screen to YouTube videos to keep your users engaged and connected. You can even add a subscribe button.

You can choose from ample options available for the YouTube end-screen templates.

Check the youtube end screen example below.

#8 Create a YouTube Playlist of similar videos

Playlists are one of the best ways to get more views. A playlist helps users to view all the videos related to a topic in an arranged manner.

And you can get more search traffic, and increase view time and retention.

You can use a combination of all the secondary keywords that are targeted to rank in YouTube search results.

Have a look at this playlist.

You can see that all of the secondary keywords are associated with the playlist. Like physical fitness, exercise intensity, skill-related fitness etc. You might have got the idea now, how wisely you can use a playlist to rank in search results.

#9 Upload the “Closed Captions” file for every video.

As video is not text-based it is difficult for crawlers to understand what is the content of the video. So it’s always a good practice to include a supporting text to inform Google what the video is all about.

The Video Captions and transcripts let google bots crawl everything that is said in the video. This also increases keyword density as well as keyword diversity.

This allows your video to rank on multiple related terms rather than the primary keyword in the video description, title or tags.

In fact, adding captions to your videos is a proven strategy to improve SEO, views, engagement, and search rank, as well as help videos be more accessible.

#10 Reply to comments to keep your audience engaged

Just like Google, YouTube displays popular content.

One deciding factor is comments, likes and subscriptions. If your video gets engagement it tells YouTube that your video is popular.

Channel Subscribing is one of the major factors that the YouTube algorithm uses to rank videos.

Tips to get comments: End your video with a question or some discussion to get the commenting started.

Conclusion

Unlike Facebook, YouTube (Google) has search engine optimization guidelines based on which a video can be made “search-able”

So, uploading a video is just not enough (unless you are a big brand or a celebrity), you MUST optimise it in order to tell Google/ Youtube what your content is all about and related to else you will be missing a lot of traffic and conversions.

Amir Shahzeidi is a musician by nature. However, his curiosity for web and marketing prompted him to take up YouTube SEO and content marketing.

And today he is a Digital Marketing Expert at a renowned video monetization SaaS company.

Read on to learn more about him and his YouTube SEO Strategies.

1. Tell us about your life journey Amir.

I’m a musician by nature, but since I can remember I had an endless curiosity for anything web and marketing related. I was born in Iran and later moved to Tbilisi, Georgia to study classical piano and composition.

I work as the digital marketing manager at Uscreen, an all-in-one video monetization platform and manage our SEO and YouTube content marketing, among other things.

2. What are the YouTube SEO strategies you have identified that work?

The YouTube SEO strategies that currently work, haven’t changed that much from the last few years.

The best way to rank high on YouTube is to create an engaging video that your viewers love to watch, optimize your video title and description to target the right set of keywords and create an engaging thumbnail that stands out and drives clicks.

Sounds fairly simple, right?

In reality, getting each of these rights can be very difficult. It’s very important to understand where you start from and where you want to be.

In the past few years, more and more businesses are turning to YouTube to boost their reach and grow their following. Similar to traditional content marketing, you need to first identify which set of keywords you want to rank for, and what metrics above all else, you want to track.

Be specific – Subscriber numbers or number of views don’t mean much for a business if you’re not converting your viewers.

If you’re just starting, it’s best to find relevant long-tail keywords around your top KDP keywords and start targeting those.

Many tools can help you find topic ideas. Among them are Ahrefs, Google Trends, TubeBuddy, VidIQ, and YouTube’s own auto-suggestion feature.

For example, when you put “content marketing” in Google Trends, you can see that the search volume for this topic has been increasing on YouTube in the US:

Once you find the right topic idea, you can go to YouTube, and start typing in the search bar. Similar to Google search, YouTube will start suggesting different topic ideas:

You can then use a tool like TubeBuddy or VidIQ to get some stats on the search volume and the competition of your keyword:

For example, TubeBuddy estimates that “content marketing for small business” has around 3K monthly search traffic, however, since the competition level is high, this might not be a good keyword to target for a channel that is just starting out.

So to wrap this up, identify a few sets of long-tail keywords that have average to low competition, and average to high search volume, then create an awesome, engaging video around that topic.

Optimize your title and description, add relevant tags, and create an engaging thumbnail that drives traffic to your video.

3. How Youtube SEO is different from Google SEO?

In some aspects, YouTube is fairly similar to Google, and in others, YouTube SEO is a whole different game. Similar to Google, you first need awesome content to be able to rank high.

Without that, there’s really no SEO. If you also have experience with optimizing pages for Google, I believe the on-page SEO part of YouTube, should be fairly straightforward for you. But that’s pretty much where the similarities end.

To rank high on YouTube, you don’t need backlinks or technical SEO. On YouTube, your primary focus should be on creating quality content that drives the results that you’re after.

Moreover, on YouTube, your views and watch-time sources aren’t limited to YouTube searches. As your video starts picking up views and generating engagement, YouTube will start suggesting your video to other viewers who might be interested in what you’re offering.

Remember, YouTube’s number 1 priority is to keep users on the platform and engaged.

Make that your number 1 priority and you’ll be golden.

4.  What are the best practices for YouTube on-page optimization?

Let’s dive into some of the best practices for YT on-page optimization:

1. Make sure to include your target keywords in your title

According to YouTube, you must always include your target keyword in your video title. And a study by Briggsby echoes YouTube’s recommendation.

Briggsby found that including your target keywords in your title can rank videos higher on search results pages.

This doesn’t mean stuffing keywords in your title. You also need to make sure that your title is engaging and optimized for viewers.

2. Keep your title concise and under 60 characters

In my experience, the shorter the title of a video is, the more it can generate views and watch time.

3. Write an optimized description

Make sure to write a well-optimized description for your video. If possible, include your target keyword or key phrase in the first paragraph.

When writing the description, aim for a keyword density of 3% to 4%, and a description length of 300-400 words.

4. Include a Timestamp in the description

Google recently started including a timestamp of YouTube videos in the video carousels on Google SERPs. This will allow users to jump to a specific point in your video. But more than that, this will allow your video to stand out on the SERPs, especially on mobile SERPs.

To get this on Google, Simply add a timestamp of each of the steps or chapters in your video, to your description.

You can read more on the best practices for marking timestamps on YouTube here.

5.  How can someone optimize for longer watch time?

Here are a few ways, we’ve been using to optimize our audience retention for longer watch-time:

1. Hook your viewers quickly

The first 15-20 seconds of your video are essential for your audience retention. Start your video by telling your viewers what exactly they’re going to find out by watching your video. Include your intro, and graphics after you hooked the viewer, and not before.

2. Use pattern interrupts

Pattern interrupts are awesome and can do wonders for your audience retention. You want to make sure that you’re continuously changing things up, including your shots, b-rolls, graphics, visuals, and script. Don’t allow viewers to get bored.

3. Deliver on your Promise

Creating a clickbait title and thumbnail can get you a lot of views, but you want to make sure that you deliver on what you’re promising to the viewers, otherwise, they will simply go watch another video and never come back.

4. Don’t drag your video too long

Once you’ve delivered on your promise and have fulfilled the searcher’s intent, include your CTA, and end the video. Don’t drag your outro too long. Doing so will make your viewers lose interest.

Let’s start with Youtube vs Facebook video comparison

What if I tell you – We need different video content for the different social media platforms?

Don’t believe me?

Check this out – video marketing on Facebook  vs YouTube comparison for same video -> 11 unusual beaches on earth

Facebook – 61 million views

Facebook Video Link

YouTube – 33k views

So, if you are creating the same content for all the platforms, it might not fetch you the desired results.

The most common mistake companies make when it comes to digital video marketing is making the same video content and video marketing strategy for Facebook and YouTube.

Facebook is not competing with YouTube on video/ video marketing but in fact, complementing it. We have had some learning at VidSaga regarding digital video marketing which I am trying to give away to you.

What is the user’s behaviour on Youtube vs Facebook

When someone logs in on YouTube, she is mentally prepared to watch video content so she puts on her earphones, has generally a suitable place and has some time (10 – 15 min) to consume content.

But this is not the case with Facebook. When someone logs in on Facebook, he is not mentally prepared to watch video content but then a video with a catchy headline, thumbnail, and description catches his attention or he sees many of his friends sharing the same content piece.

He clicks on it out of curiosity but is now caught off guard. He might not have earphones handy or he might not be at a place where he can switch on his speakers and he might not have that much time to consume a lengthy video. So what he does – he may save it for the future or may decide to watch it anyway, maybe muted.

A Youtube video view is counted after 30 seconds of a person having watched it. The views will be further frozen to check whether the video views are authentic or not.

While Facebook video view is counted just after 3 seconds of watching the Facebook video.

Main Difference between Facebook and Youtube

The DNA of Youtube and Facebook are different. Youtube is a video hosting platform which is run by its parent organization – Google (Alphabet)

Google’s DNA is searched and hence the same DNA is applicable to Youtube. What this essentially means is that the videos which we create are properly ‘searchable’

Where is Facebook is a ‘video also’ sharing platform and its DNA is ‘virality’. In fact we need Facebook only to make ‘Youtube videos’ viral. Having said that, the problem with Facebook is that it is difficult to search for a particular video

So which platform is best for which type of videos?

Youtube  – Create video content with a Long term strategy. Create awesome videos, add value to your audience’s life, gain subscribers over a period, and build your channel and video marketing.

Facebook – Snackable video which can be consumed and shared with your network.

Learn from Video Marketing experts

What is YouTube from a Video Marketer’s POV?

Consider Youtube as an extended Blog section where you specifically publish video content.

So whatever content is working for you for the Text blog, we can create a video out of it.

The important thing to remember is to do proper YouTube SEO so that Google can show your video for appropriate search queries and it helps in your Youtube video marketing.

What are the ways a YouTube video can be seen/ viewed

– If someone makes a search (Google’s DNA) – The same SEO concept is applicable

– If you have a good subscribers base (Unlike FB, everyone gets a notification)

– Influencer Marketing – Influencers/ Celebrities with a good no.of followers share it in their network

– Paid Promotion on YouTube and other platforms

“Why YouTube is not for short term? – Because we can not buy subscribers or accelerate the process of getting the subscribers”

How Facebook has positioned itself differently?

Facebook identified this gap and made its platform for short-term strategy. Consider it more like a media platform like TV. We can promote our video to our audience in a more targeted way.

The shelf life of a video on FB is 2-3 days and then it’s gone, you can not search for it (unless someone specifically visits the video section of your page) but at the same time, this time window is also enough if you promote it effectively.

Facebook gives you the option to buy page likes, video promotion cost effectively etc.

Tips for Facebook Video Marketing

Facebook is all about sharing content with your friends. So we need to create that content which compels people to share.

Easy, right? Ok, let me share a couple of ideas regarding Facebook video marketing strategy

  1. Create a video on a person’s characteristics. For example, if you are into the business of ‘Food’, create a video on ‘Foodie’ and ask people to tag their ‘Foodie’ friend

Check out this video

https://www.facebook.com/mymagicpin/videos/1784803041834494/?v=1784803041834494

2. Listicles Videos

It’s normal human behaviour to rate things. We all have the curiosity to know the Top 10 Hotels in the world, the Top 10 beaches in the world etc.  And like Myths vs Reality videos, it can get a pass on.

https://www.facebook.com/ixigo/videos/vl.108177256267189/10154211985503270/?type=1

Some Technical things to remember for Facebook video vs Youtube

  • The majority of people watch a Facebook video without sound, so either create a video which can be understood without audio or add subtitles to the video
  • As most people browse Facebook while they are on micro-break, keep the duration as short as possible. Ideally should be less than 60 seconds
  • Add a good Thumbnail for the video
  • Add a personalised description

Conclusion

Our aim to write this article was to establish the fact that we should not create the same video content strategy for both platforms. There is a fundamental difference between the 2 platforms and we should consider that.

We can share youtube videos on Facebook but we can’t share Facebook videos on youtube. This a simple and obvious fact but often forgotten while creating a social video marketing strategy.

Hope it is useful.  Let us know if you have any comments/ feedback at team(at)vidsaga(dot)com

In the next few minutes, you will learn deep insights about Youtube videos and marketing. Read on!

1. Tell us about your life journey,  Douglas?

I’m 52, so this is the short (really long) version. My father was an engineer and productivity expert. Growing up, he was always analyzing and sharing how he was able to optimize everything from his gas mileage (seriously – we found the logs after he passed away) to entire factory layouts. Opposites attract, so my Mom was more creative and didn’t plan anything.

I grew up in a home where both creativity and analysis were always encouraged, though. My sister was an international fashion model and actress, so I was exposed to both cultures growing up. As I grew older, I was into both designs as well as troubleshooting. I was naturally curious about how systems operated and ways to correct and improve them.

The best life decision I made was enlisting in the United States Navy and going through Nuclear Electrician school. A ship is basically a floating city with limited resources, so you had to be both creative and disciplined to troubleshoot and maintain equipment because an entire crew was depending on you. After I was discharged, I brought that expertise to the newspaper industry. The Internet was in its infancy but I was lucky to work for an organization that was fully invested in it.

We networked equipment and captured usage data to predict failures and preventative maintenance, then built dashboards that monitored productivity. Every year we saved resources and grew our efficiency. At that point, database marketing took off and I applied the same creativity and troubleshooting discipline to database marketing and analytics. Fast forward, and I helped bring several SaaS products to market, many of them centred around intent and search visibility.

YouTube is the second largest search engine and its users are highly engaged and have the intent to solve problems – so optimization of YouTube channels and videos was critical to my customers’ success.

2. What content strategy do you recommend for Youtube marketing?

I’ll be honest that I’m not a fan of calling it “YouTube Marketing”… it’s marketing. A portion of every customer base appreciates and utilizes YouTube, but not everyone. I encourage and work with my clients to develop a finite “content library” that utilizes each medium – graphics, text, audio, and video – to provide the information necessary to their prospects.

Repurposing this material helps you maximize your resources and your reach. If you’re solely focused on YouTube, you’re missing out on customers that aren’t attracted by video. If you’re solely focused on text and graphical content, you’re missing out on customers that love video.

You have to incorporate video into every element of your acquisition, retention, and upsell marketing strategies. Years ago, I said that I envisioned a day when every page of a website had a video element… I still believe that should be the goal despite virtually every company missing the mark.

3. What things marketers should consider during video production and before publishing the videos?

Because video can require more resources, I encourage marketers to test the messaging and content before the video. We may start with researching trends and competing articles, graphics, and videos that are popular for the audience we’re targeting. Then we’ll identify resources, research, write an article, and promote it. We’ll observe how it performs, enhance it with graphics, and keep optimizing it… sometimes for weeks. When we see it gaining traction, we may do a presentation, an infographic, or even a webinar on the topic. And when we see those taking off – we do a video that is both concise and thorough on the topic.

It may be as simple as a customer testimonial or a full animated explainer video. If the information is time-sensitive, we’ll publish updates to keep the content fresh and engaging.

4. How marketers can increase audience retention on YouTube?

Retention is synonymous with value. If you’re providing value to your audience – whether it’s entertainment, how-to, or any other strategy – you must sustain or increase that value. Your subscribers may also want you to maintain your frequency.

I would also caution video marketers that attention spans are short… it’s a myth. People are binge-watching entire series on YouTube… there’s no shortage of attention spans. They do; however, have choices. Because of this, you need to grab their attention immediately, set expectations on what they’re going to see, and then create a video that fulfils that expectation. Whether that’s a 2 minute explainer video or a two-hour tutorial, the audience will remain and subscribe if they get value from you.

Plan and create videos accordingly! I’d also encourage you to cross-promote your videos – talk about your last one and tease your next one to have people subscribe and keep them coming back. And incorporate them into every channel of your marketing – from social media to advertising, to public relations.

Know the New Things in Video Marketing

5. What are the reasons a video is not ranking on Youtube or not getting any views?

Aside from what I mentioned above, the biggest issues I see on underperforming YouTube videos are terrible titles and descriptions. Without titles, tags, and detailed descriptions, YouTube may be unable to index the video accurately. I’d also encourage transcriptions – sometimes we paste those directly into the description.

If you’re looking to market, be sure to include a link FIRST in your description so people can go to your site and dig deeper into a topic.

It’s crazy to me that a video company will spend weeks planning, recording, and editing a beautiful video – and then they don’t optimize their title, write an engaging description, and then fill out all the additional data fields that YouTube offers. If they took an extra hour to do this, it would make all the difference! I’ve spent days on new clients, optimizing each video, and watched their views and conversions increase tenfold.

1. Tell us about your life journey, Nikola?

I grew up in Serbia, a small and poor country in the Balkans, Europe.

During my childhood, several wars were happening but luckily, I and my family didn’t get involved. Except that the country and we as a family were dirt poor.

Now, I tell you this as a prelude to 2015, when I was 25 years old. Back then my mother got terminally ill with cancer and there was no helping her.

There was no help because we didn’t have the money we needed to try and save her.

So back then, I tried to start my online business to earn enough money to save her, and it was a fiasco. It was a fiasco because I knew next to nothing about internet marketing, affiliate marketing, SEO, and YouTube SEO…

It’d be like if I decide tomorrow to start playing professional tennis when I never held a racquet in my hands.

So, I failed and my mother died. After that, I fell into extreme poverty. I was receiving state social help of around $50 per month and was really living with less than a dollar per day.

I remember my eating schedule was based on a system, “today I eat once, tomorrow two times”

Yeah, it was that bad.

But around that time, I also decided to retry internet marketing but this time at my own pace and with no time pressure.

So I borrowed money from a friend who at the time was working in Seattle and I joined a program called Wealthy Affiliate.

This program taught me the basics of online marketing and offered me the tools and basic hosting I needed to start my online business. That’s how my freelance writing business was born (it’s here: nikolaroza.com) and somehow, with lots of luck and a tonne of mass cold email outreach, I got a few paying clients and things picked up from there.

This is a heavily truncated version of events because I don’t want to bore anyone with my life’s story and the struggles I had to endure.

The point is that it was a hellish experience but I got out of it stronger than ever.

It didn’t kill me and it did make me stronger.

And in hindsight,  I’m grateful for the experience because it showed me I had no real friends and no real family and that I could only truly depend on me and my only.

So I’m glad how things turned out, and the only thing I regret is that my mother is not alive to see the success I now have and that she can’t enjoy the better life she deserved but never got.

2. How can Businesses leverage Youtube marketing to fulfil business objectives?

Here are two simple ways:

First, it’s brand building.

Make your videos yet another touching point for your target audience.

Because when your future tribe and customers are exposed to your brand over and over, and in different ways too (text content, video content, audio…); then over time they will learn to recognize you and will develop an affinity for you over someone else’s brand.

Second– Funnel people to your own property.

Your YouTube channel is yours, but it’s built on rented property.

It is smart to think long term and to try to get people on your own site and then onto your list. Because your list is your only property.

3. What are some smart tactics to do Youtube Keyword Research?

I’ll give you two.

First, produce a dozen or so videos that target long-tail video keywords.

Just like with Google SEO, those are the type of keywords new channels can rank for easily, and often really fast too, in a couple of weeks.

Because once you rank for these, you will start to get some traffic, and that traffic will be highly engaged (because long tail keywords bring people who’re very targeted and know exactly what they want)

You will start to accumulate watch time which is YouTube’s most important ranking factor.

Once you have that, and YouTube sees that your videos are getting traction like they’re the only ones that exist; then they’ll start to trust your channel and you will qualify for ranking for more important and higher volume keywords.

So start small and work your way up. Don’t make the mistake of targeting head keywords ‘head on’, as you will be very frustrated with your lack of results.

Second, find the tags popular videos use and use those for your videos. At the same time, use a competitor’s brand name as your video tag. This will help you get sidebar exposure because YouTube will see your video as relevant to your competitor’s videos.

And YouTube’s video sidebar is the most important real estate you can own. Much more important than a regular YouTube searches.

4. Please share how Youtube SEO has evolved over the last few years and what according to you is its future.

Earlier, the subscribers count was insanely important for Youtube SEO.

Right now it’s watch time and it’s going to stay like that for the foreseeable future.

Why?

Because YouTube wants to keep people on for as long as possible on their property. So if your channel glues people to your videos,  then you will see a boost and it will only grow.

So the key to securing your channel’s future among the ever stronger competition is to maximize your total watch time.

Because the more you have it, the more Youtube will want to promote your videos as a safe bet for them.

That’s how you will rise to the top among the endless video production that only increases by the day.

5. How can one measure the success of Youtube SEO?

Here are the metrics to check, in the order of importance:

  • Total watch time
  • Video retention percentage
  • Number of views
  • Number of comments
  • Number of likes
  • Number of shares

The best way to ensure your channels’ organic growth on YouTube is to maximize watch time and video retention rate.

That will translate to tangible SEO gains because YouTube will promote you everywhere.

1. Tell us about your life journey, in brief, Shivendra?

We all know that the creative Adult is actually the Child who survived.

And my Adulthood too got driven by my Childhood zeal of thinking that whatever I could imagine is real.

Like many of us, not liking preachy stuff- but enjoying the same lessons when shared in the form of stories with lots of fun, twist, and turn- has been the case with me all the time.

While doing my Software engineering, the quest of finding some creative means to share my imagination with the world guided me towards the digital world.

And in the process, while watching the Star Wars series by George Lucas, I came up with the idea of writing my first fiction story “But Anakin Says, Earth’s Heaven is Jupiter’s Dustbin” to talk about a world beyond all the facades, dogged dogmas & fanaticism.

The story was published on HubPages in the year 2015 and since then, I am sticking-to-activeness and digging into different layers of the Digital World.

As a Digital Marketing Author at Digital Vidya and Marketing & Business Management Blogger at Marketing 91, I am involved in imparting knowledge about different domains of Digital Marketing, Business Management, and Technology over the years.

With all my experience in the Digital World, here, what I can bear testimony for are-

– YouTube is a boon for creative minds!

– And for the businesses, it just brings the iron in the fire!

2. How is the YouTube SEO algorithm different from Google SEO?

Being the second most commonly used Search Engine, it is the easiest yet the most engaging Digital Marketing Channel for sharing content, ideas, information, and knowledge.

When it comes to connection, conviction, and conversion, there is no better way than YouTube Marketing to-

  • Penetrate the widest audience base
  • Generate powerful leads
  • Use favourable analytics
  • Boost sales potential

And the best thing is- you can do all this in the shortest possible time.

The reason behind this is actually the difference between YouTube SEO algorithms and Google SEO algorithms.

Do you know that with YouTube SEO, if you are going to rank then you will rank in the first 24 to 48 hrs?

Yes, it is true!

While on the other hand, with Google SEO, you will be lucky if your web page or website gets rankings in the next 5 to 6 months, forget about 24 or 48hrs.

Even, in most cases, Google SEO takes more than a year to show real results.

So, the major difference between YouTube SEO and Google SEO is that the first 24 hrs will tell how your video on YouTube will perform in the long run.

The second difference that needs your attention here is-

For determining rankings, Google looks at links while with YouTube, it is all about engagements.

The longer the watch time and engagement on your videos, it will help you in getting better ranks on YouTube. More watch time, likes, shares and subscribers- all count in increasing your engagement rates.

Engagement on Google is decided by the bounce rates while on YouTube, it is decided by the view time. So, engagement on YouTube is decided by-

  • View Times
  • Likes
  • Comments
  • Dislikes

Also, Google and YouTube both look at authority while ranking content.

But with Google, if you are building links, you will keep on climbing on the authority ladder which will optimize your ranking potential. While on the other hand, on YouTube, your authority fluctuates every month, and that is why, with YouTube, you need to keep on creating top-notch content, and first-rate engagement with your videos to keep on having good authority.

Finally, the best of all –  YouTube is easy to rank for, while Google is hard.

Depending upon the industries, Google may take 4, 6, 12 or even more months to see the results while on YouTube, max in 30 days, you can start seeing the results.

4.  How can one monetize a YouTube channel?

First thing first, you need to accept the YouTube partner terms for monetizing your videos.

Here, you should also understand that for the monetization of your YouTube account, you need to reach 10,000 views first. Then, if your account gets the approval, you will start making money.

The process of approval revolves around a few simple steps.

For this, you should log in to YouTube and click upon ‘my channel’ then tap on the ‘Video Manager’ option.

Then by looking on the left side, you will see a navigation menu from which you are supposed to choose the ‘Channel’ option. In the next step, you should ‘Enable’ the button given in front of the Monetization option. Now, you will see the terms and conditions of the ‘YouTube Partner Program Terms’ that you need to accept by tapping on the ‘I accept’ box.

Now, a Channel heading will appear in which ‘Monetization’ will appear that you should choose.

This will open a window with the heading ‘Monetization’. There, you should tap on the option ‘How will I be paid’. – Now proceed further by tapping on ‘Associated an AdSense account’.

This will take you towards the final few steps- where you are supposed to tap on the ‘Next’ option. The next window will ask you to Sign in to your Gmail account.

Here, you should feed all the details that are asked and then continue. Then you should fill up all the other details and finally tap on the ‘Submit My Application’ option.

Verification of your mobile number will now be processed which will lead your application for AdSense to get submitted for approval.

Soon, your account will get approved for monetization.

In the next 4 minutes, you will be learning some real insights about Youtube SEO, growing Youtube subscriber base and Youtube video marketing. Read on!

1. Tell us about your life journey, Sugandha?

Since childhood, I desired to have something of my own. I always wanted to achieve big goals and expectations. I used to push myself to achieve my goals. Fascinated with the business world, I wanted to be a part of this ecosystem. Marketing has always thrived my interest in analysing TV ads and product stickers to think over the strategy that has been incurred to attract people.

With an inclination toward Business and Marketing Management, I completed my MBA to learn the different aspects of Business Studies. For the last few years, I have been a part of Business Networking International (BNI) and Confederation of Indian Industry- Young India (CII-YI) – the community of leading industry leaders and subject matter experts. I performed various roles and learnt the peculiarities of referral marketing and businesses.

Over a while, when the world was rapidly moving towards digitalization,  I decided to be a digital marketing entrepreneur. Then I founded a marketing and advertising company called The Blue Oceans Group. It has 2 subsidiaries –  Your Travelling Story (Online Travel Media) and Cosmo Intellect (A sociopolitical blogging site). My Life’s motto is to inspire myself and the people around me with the philosophy – “Be the Master of Your Own Thoughts and Destiny”.

2. What are the factors one should consider while creating YouTube videos?

Videos take over 74% of online traffic and as each day passes, an environment for producing high-value video is becoming exponentially more competitive. More than 300 hours of video are uploaded on YouTube EVERY MINUTE. So the question is, how to get noticed out of all?

First, analyse and strategize your old YouTube videos in terms of Video CTR, Audience Retention and Session Time. Then, create a list of best practices that can be applied to optimize these factors. Once you complete this step, prioritize the metrics throughout every step of the video creation process and work on the variables for the above factors i.e. For Video CTR work on the Video Thumbnail, Title, and Description after a deep analysis of the competitor’s keyword and traffic that are ranking higher.

Next, produce videos with the goal of having your audience hooked to your channel by working towards solely providing clear, captivating and valuable content.

Keep the formula in mind: Deliver them the value they’re looking for, and they will keep clicking, watching and signalling the algorithm to pay attention to you.

3. What are the best practices for marketing a YouTube channel?

Producing high-quality, in-depth content is the best practice any marketer (Blogger, YouTuber, etc.) should do. Preferring quality over quantity is the thumb rule and the best method.

You remember JunsKitchen. He has only uploaded 29 pieces of high-quality content related to his niche and has 4.58 million subscribers. The list can go on.

Many times, a lot of marketers and YouTubers choose inappropriate keywords and even after producing high-quality content, they don’t get user engagement, views and shares. Therefore, for each content, a YouTuber should choose the right keywords and optimize his Youtube SEO for greater reach.

There is an elementary step to choosing the right keywords. YouTube has an amazing feature of “YouTube Autocomplete” to find the best SEO Optimized keywords, and the best part is: it always suggests the most popular keywords. Type your content-related keywords, and YoutTube will auto-complete and suggest you some keywords.

Promote your videos outside YouTube. If you do this, the YouTube algorithm receives the signals for engagement, and it increases the credibility and ranking of your videos. To perform this, you can ask the relevant bloggers in your category to add your video links in his/her blog post as backlinks. It works tremendously.

4. How can marketers grow their Youtube subscriber base?

Growing a subscriber base on YouTube is like making a delicious Cake. You have to put all the ingredients in the right place in the right quantity. There are a few more things which we need to consider and practice in terms of gaining a huge subscriber base. I would like to make quick pointers.

YouTubers should make a content calendar and post videos at a fixed interval. Make sure you plan out your videos ahead of time with word to word charming and articulate script.

SEO Optimization also plays a crucial role in your YouTube Videos. For this, a YouTuber can use focus video keywords at least 2-3 times in the video description.

Using rich Tags is also critical. Strategically, use your main keywords in the first Tag, related keywords in your 2nd Tag, and use those keywords which describe your videos in the third Tag.

Using 3-5 Tags is the most appropriate. Many YouTubers do use more than that. By using 10-15 Tags, don’t confuse Youtube.

Ask 2-3 times by telling people in your videos to subscribe to your channel. Chances of getting a subscription increased 2-3 times.

Upload transcripts videos with subtitles. Your subtitles should be in multiple languages for greater reach. It will help you in bringing global reach and popularity. You will get more views which results in getting more subscribers.

Simple highly effective principles for increasing the subscriber base are: Be Consistent, Provide Value and Be Remarkable.

Know the New Things in Video Marketing

5. How can businesses generate and manage engagement on Youtube?

The best way to get engagement is to prepare good FAQs and ask a particular question with Call To Action (CTAs). People will comment and engage with you.

You should not merely ask such as “please leave a comment” or “share your thoughts in the comment box”. It is very general and non-appealing to the audience.

Also, you can use “Pinned Comment” by asking questions. Here you ask your viewers a question in the comment section, and when you pin it, it lies on top. By doing this, you are encouraging your viewers to comment.

Once people start commenting, you should reply to every comment with an excellent response time.

The algorithm of YouTube says videos having great session time will increase the stay time of viewers on the videos.

At last, your video length matters a lot to the YouTube Algorithm. Youtube Study says, “the longer you can keep people watching on YouTube because of your content; the more your content may get surfaced.

The most recommended time for any informative or inspiring video must be in between 7 minutes to 15 minutes. Videos less than 5-6 minutes are tough to rank.

1. Tell us about your life journey, Sachin?

Everything I am today is the imagination of a child looking out of a train window.

As a kid (and even today), I enjoyed journeys more than destinations. Or, I should say that the adventure of those journeys made my destinations more fulfilling. And, my adventure was the thoughts evoked by the motion of life passing by in front of me. Every place and every face had layers and layers of stories.

Or, maybe it was just me!

But, why am I telling you this?!

It was this creative approach towards life that directed me to write, which led me to gain SEO knowledge as a professional. Because, as you know, SEO is not just science, it is an integration of the art and science of ‘becoming visible in the digital world’.

2. Please share your SEO learnings with our community – How marketers can rank Youtube video faster?

Ranking videos depend on these factors:

a. Ability to create a well-targeted YouTube channel, having clarity on the market segment you want to target.

b. Creative approach to engaging your audiences in a video within 15 seconds, so they watch the whole video and increase your retention rate.

c. Using longtail keywords for topics and publishing videos incorporating them frequently.

d. Don’t just write your keywords in your video descriptions, title and tags, but actually say them in your videos.

e. Customize thumbnails to get more clicks to receive higher rankings in YouTube result pages.

f. Encourage your audiences to like, comment and share your videos for more impressions.

Remember, the basics (high-quality videos, frequent publishing, and choosing an optimal video length) still apply.

3. Is there a way to decide the optimal video length for Youtube videos, If yes, how?

There are studies and surveys, telling video marketers about what video length works the best. But I think that is not how marketers should look at video length. If your content requires a 10-minute long video, can you make a 2-minute video just because a survey says so?.! So, it comes down to the channel and the kind of content you are creating.

However, it is important to figure out a perfect video length for your channel. You can do that by answering these two questions for your YouTube channel:

a. What duration will work best for your video content niche?

b. How long do your audiences feel interested in your videos?

Are you a video marketing expert? Take this quiz

4.  How can one leverage the ‘Youtube Help’ section to analyse Video performance?

‘YouTube Help’ offers a section called “Create and grow your channel”. There you can find “Analyze performance with analytics” to find and understand data related to:

  • Audience reach
  • Audience engagement
  • Channel revenue

and much more!

You can:

  • Check your audience retention,
  • View live stream data,
  • Find out how many subscribers can get your notifications,
  • Discover sources of your video traffic,
  • Check the delivery of bell notifications

and more!

5.  What common mistakes should businesses avoid when it comes to Youtube SEO?

When using YouTube for business marketing, SEO becomes a valuable tool. But, in my experience, I have found that some businesses either don’t create a long-term content strategy or fail to follow their content strategy in the long run. Another important issue to notice is the “Storytelling” part. Even if it’s a marketing video, businesses need to make it like a story, containing an interesting beginning, mind-grasping middle, and a satisfying climax.

Many businesses become so focused on their marketing goals that they forget about their target audiences and do what they find interesting. YouTube content creation has to be for the users, whether it is an informational or commercial video.

Greg Jarboe is a Youtube video marketing expert and the Co-founder of SEO-PR(content marketing agency).

In this article, he shares a video marketing case study of one of his clients and talks about how YouTube has evolved over the years.

Read on to know more about him and his expertise.

1. What according to you is the best YouTube Marketing Strategy currently?

There is no single strategy that is “best” for all of the 2.4 million different YouTube creators that uploaded 813 million videos in the last 30 days. These videos got 26.0 trillion views, so there are a wide variety of YouTube marketing strategies that work exceptionally well in more than 100 countries and a total of 80 different languages.

If there are a few common elements to their strategies, then they are: create great content, devise a holistic channel strategy, use paid and non-paid means to promote your videos, and learn the tools to measure your results. But, these common elements and $1.85 will buy you a tall cup of freshly brewed coffee at Starbucks.

2. Can you please share a Video Marketing case study of one of your clients?

Let me share the video marketing case study for SonoSite, the leader in portable ultrasound technology, credited for advancing medicine by bringing ultrasound to the point of care. In early 2011, SonoSite began preparing for major product roll-outs over the next two years. Although SonoSite’s management was confident that these new products would raise the “innovation bar” in point-of-care ultrasound visualization, it also needed to deal with a shift in the marketing paradigm.

According to a study commissioned by Google that was released in November 2009, 86% of U.S. physicians used the Internet to gather health, medical or prescription drug information.  This is why healthcare firms need to reexamine their business models and proactively seek new ways to stay ahead of the competition.

In January 2011, SonoSite engaged the Rutgers Center for Management Development (CMD) to offer a customized executive education program to 40 SonoSite employees at the company’s headquarters.  The Rutgers Mini-MBA: Digital Marketing program was tailored to SonoSite’s specific corporate needs for eight target audiences and marketing objectives. I taught two of the 10 modules in the program. One covered Video Marketing and showed how to get more people to discover, watch and share the videos on the SonoSite channel on YouTube.

Following the program, Rutgers asked me to provide additional consulting and advisory services to each of the eight teams created during the program. On March 8, 2011, these teams presented specific proposals for new projects. Following these presentations, SonoSite’s executive board approved all eight proposals.

And Kevin Goodwin, SonoSite’s President and CEO, said, “The Rutgers Digital Marketing Program was not only eye-opening for us, but also laid the groundwork for several inspired projects we currently have underway.  I have no doubt that the results of these new initiatives will pay for the course many times over.”

For example, before I taught the Video Marketing module two years ago, SonoSite’s channel on YouTube had 99,529 total upload views. By comparison, GE Healthcare’s YouTube channel had 121,109 total upload views back then. Today, SonoSite’s channel on YouTube has more than 17.8 million views. By comparison, GE Healthcare’s YouTube channel has under 9.2 million views.

How did they leapfrog over the largest competitor? Luke Baldwin, the Manager of Digital Content at SonoSite, took what he’d learned in the Video Marketing module and implemented all the important tips, best practices, and strategies that I’d taught.

Among other things, he wrote optimized titles, tags, and descriptions for SonoSite’s existing video content. And if you search for a term like, cardiac ultrasound parasternal, you will still see that SonoSite videos rank #1 and #2 in YouTube search results.

You will also see three SonoSite videos at the top of Google search results.

By the way, the fact that other companies are advertising for this term indicates how valuable it is for SonoSite to have the top three organic rankings.

Baldwin also built a cohesive channel strategy and viewing experience. Two years ago, SonoSite’s YouTube channel had 253 subscribers. Today, it has 55,100. He has also produced a compelling channel trailer that helps to turn first-time visitors into long-term subscribers.

SonoSite also created new content to build a genuine community around the company’s YouTube channel and what it stands for. You can see this in one of its newest videos, which is entitled, “Now Showing: Floating Doctors Series Presented by SonoSite.”

The video tells the story about Dr. Ben LaBrot and the rest of the Floating Doctors team. Dr. LaBrot and his crew sees thousands of patients in the isolated areas of Central America and Haiti. Floating Doctors stays true to its central ethos: focusing on each individual patient. Portable ultrasound is critical in making this mission real.

SonoSite’s ability to develop and produce industry-leading and price-competitive products for both point-of-care and traditional diagnostic markets was one of the reasons why Fujifilm acquired SonoSite for approximately $995 million in March 2012. SonoSite’s ability to use YouTube to build brand awareness and drive a significant number of visitors and leads to the company’s website was another.

3. How has YouTube Video Marketing evolved over the years?

Launched in 2005, YouTube has evolved from a small video sharing site into the leading social media platform. According to Alexa, an Amazon.com company, YouTube.com is the #2 site on the web, behind only Google.com. By comparison, Facebook.com ranks #4.

According to a combination of public opinion surveys and large-scale data analysis, the Pew Research Center has found:

  • 73% of U.S. adults used YouTube. And among those who are 18- to 24-years old, 90% used YouTube. The only other social media platform that approaches YouTube in terms of its reach is Facebook, which was used by 69% of U.S. adults.
  • YouTube channels generate a massive amount of content each and every week. Almost 44,000 YouTube channels had at least 250,000 subscribers. Collectively, these popular channels uploaded 48,486 hours of content and got more than 14.2 billion individual views a week. The average video was 12 minutes long and received nearly 60,000 views in the first seven days after it was posted.
  • And 81% of YouTube’s adult users in the U.S. said that they at least occasionally watch the videos suggested by the platform’s recommendation algorithm. In a study of the algorithm itself, Pew found that YouTube recommends progressively longer videos – at least when it lacks information about what the viewer needed in order to make more personalized recommendations. After a chain of just four video recommendations, the algorithm was likely to suggest a video more than five minutes longer than the one the viewer originally started on.

And according to data provided by YouTube for Press, over 2 billion logged-in users visit YouTube each month. Every day, people watch over a billion hours of video and generate billions of views. More than 70% of YouTube watch time comes from mobile devices (e.g. smartphones and tablets). And the number of channels with more than one million subscribers grew by more than 65% year over year.

That’s why smart brands and businesses should focus on YouTube in 2020 to see even greater social media success.

4. Tell us about your life journey in brief, Greg?

My father was the director of marketing at Oldsmobile back in the late 1980s. So, in some regards, I’m following in my father’s footsteps. But, my mother was a math teacher at DeWitt High School back then. So, I’ve really blended both marketing and math in my life journey.

5. What prompted you to take up YouTube Corporate Consulting?

To tell the truth, it wasn’t my idea. In August 2006, The Christian Science Monitor hired my agency, SEO-PR, to write, optimize, and distribute a press release about an 11-part series that was written by Jill Carroll, one of their reporters who had been held hostage in Iraq for 82 days. A few days before the press release was distributed, I started pitching the story in advance to editors at CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo News, The Huffington Post, and Boing Boing.  All five editors had the same question, “Do you have any video?” I didn’t.

All I had was a 150-word excerpt and a photo. But, my son, Brendan, who was working for me that summer while he was home from college, suggested that we create a YouTube video.

When I went back to the editors, all five of them agreed to run a story about the series. Within the first 24 hours after the series went live, more than 450,000 unique visitors flooded CSMonitor.com, seven times its daily average.  And page views for the first day broke through the 1 million mark, a massive increase from the site’s average of 121,247 page views per day. That’s when I decided to add YouTube and video marketing to my agency’s list of services.

Top 25 Video Marketing Disruptors (Globally) in 2019

1. Tell us about your life journey, in brief, Rishabh?

I was born in Jodhpur and raised in a middle-class typical baniya family. Studied in Hindi Medium school.

Found my first passion in Hindi Poetry, published the first book at age of 16. Later combined Poetry & Chemistry to publish my second book.

I then joined IIT Bombay for graduation & PG, post which I did consulting, started a venture in ed-tech space, raised multiple rounds of funding and scaled it to multiple cities. Recently, I started a YouTube channel – Labour law Advisor which has 850K+ subscribers.

My story at Josh Talks Stage:

2. Youtube channel on Labour Law? Isn’t that unusual?

Yes, we make videos related to career, finance, and most unusual labour laws.

It’s unusual because neither of us ( me and my partner Mandeep) are either an advocate or CA. My family is into labour law consulting business, which has been running for the last 42 years. My grandfather always had this dream that this business should be continued.

Being an engineer, I had zero experience or interest in the subject. I found it complex as well as boring. One day I thought let’s read about a topic and make a video on the same, this way I might be motivated enough.

When I read, I found these acts very simple. It’s the language and lack of better explanation made them complex. Maybe the lawmakers had done that deliberately. So I made the first video explaining the act in simple layman language. That’s how the journey started.

3. What are some of the Youtube growth hacks you learned for growing your channel?

When we started the channel, we never thought that a channel about labour law would ever reach even 10k subs. But with God’s grace and a lot of trials and errors the channel started getting traction.

I have a 3-words mantra when it comes to YouTube success – Quality, Consistency, and Innovation. We also used a lot of growth hacks, many of them gave splendid results. Today the family is of 850k+ subscribers.

4.  What is your thought process and story behind organising ThinkVid?

Our YouTube journey started without any mentor or training. We learned everything by trial and error.

We still have a lot of questions without answers. When you start your YouTube channel, as a beginner you have multiple questions like – How to do video SEO? How to get advertisers? How much to quote? How to gain subscribers quickly? How much money you can make from a partner programme etc.

To solve these issues for budding YouTubers, we are bringing India’s biggest YouTube celebs on a single-stage, where they will be sharing their success secrets. The event is not 7th March, 2020 at Clarks Amer Jaipur. More details can be

5.  What would be your advice to newbies for growing Youtube channel or Youtube Marketing strategy?

I’ll again share my 3-words mantra – Quality, Consistency, and Innovation. It’s always difficult in the beginning but bright days are never far.

Find a good mentor, don’t miss any chance to learn and collaborate as often as possible. These things will help you to shorten the period of becoming a Verified creator.
